Maker education is gaining greater recognition for reaching students in ways traditional education can and has not been able to do in the past. Allowing students to explore with their hands, materials, and tools helps children form understanding and meaning to the content and skills teachers desire their students to master. Through the spaces and resources offered at Hillel Day School's IDEA Collaborative and Innovation Hub, children in grades PreK through eight, have opportunities to discover new learning through explorations, investigations, projects, as well as planned and direct lessons.

Just this week, students were learning about the ideas of entrepreneurship, economics, and making while preparing for our upcoming Spring Shuk on Monday, May 6, 2019 where vendors will sell goods during a one day market held in the lobby of our school. In addition to featuring students' learning through the vending of items made in our MakerSpace and Greenhouse, this spring's Shuk will feature vendors from our local community including TinkrLab https://www.tinkrlab.com/, Stella and Dot https://www.stelladot.com/, and It's Outside the Box https://itsoutsidethebox.wixsite.com/giftboxes! What better way for students to engage in learning about math and economics than selling their creations alongside real-life business owners?
